Summary[]

Muley Jones, a Cartwright cousin from Missouri, visits the Ponderosa. He and his voice prove a major disruption and headache for his relatives and unintentionally fouls up their negotiations for an Indian tribe.

Plot[]

Hoss plays horseshoes and the match is riding on a $10.00 bet. Hoss has taken his turn and tossed a ringer. As his opponent steps up for his turn, a loud singing voice is heard, which causes his opponent to miss. A fight breaks out and Hoss, the stranger, and Brave Pony are hauled to jail by Sheriff Coffey. The stranger introduces himself as Muley Jones, a distant cousin, and bear-hugs Hoss in friendship. The handsome, childish Muley loves to sing and does it at every opportunity. Muley sings in a voice loud enough to break glass. Hoss pays the fine for all three to avoid jail time.

Meanwhile, the sheriff is looking for a couple of moonshiners who are selling their own liquor to various drinking establishments. At the same time in town, Ben will be meeting an Indian Affairs agent from Washington DC to encourage him to leave a local tribe on their own land instead of moving them to a reservation.

Because of Muley’s loud singing voice, glass keeps breaking and Hoss, Muley, and the chief’s son, Brave Pony, are caught in several situations that make them look guilty of allowing the tribe to have whiskey. Muley’s decides to use his loud voice to catch the moonshiners. Muley is able to convince the Indian agent with the truth of the matter before taking the stagecoach to San Francisco.
